What type of baseboard material would you suggest?
Post Body

I recently bought a 100 y/o home - craftsman style. In 2006, previous owners put on an addition. “Original” home still has all the original woodwork, addition has “big box” 3.5” baseboards/trim and the paint is starting to chip. The addition (with hardwood flooring) is now primary living/family room/play area.

Was initially thinking MDF, but from what I read, their susceptibility to moisture made me second guess using them. Then I though of using PVC, but not sure of the aesthetics.

Do I just go with pine and paint (https://www.sherwin-williams.com/homeowners/products/emerald-urethane-trim-enamel) or would MDF be okay? Plan on doing toe/shoe as well. With two young kids (3 & 1) want the baseboards to hold up to the wear/tear, no more chipping paint, and minimal maintenance/upkeep.
