We are having the hardwood floors throughout our house refinished by contractors and of course need to be gone for the days while it is happening.

We will be at an Airbnb across town and won’t be able to unlock the house and lock back up every day. We have moved all our furniture and so on into the garage.

Is there a standard way to handle security for this process? I have no reason not to trust our contractor but handing him a key and saying “here’s my house and all my belongings, see you in a few days (and please don’t make a copy of the key!)” feels weird.

I know at some point you just have to trust professionals and my guess is that’s what folks will tell me, but I thought I’d ask this wonderful group in case there’s a simple standard practice that I just don’t know about. (Tried googling and didn’t find anything.)
