So, my SO is afraid to remove the existing backsplash completely, she thinks having the option of removing the “new” backsplash by using a somewhat temporary glue over the existing tile backsplash is preferable to removing it and not being able to reveal the existing backsplash, if she chooses. She wants options if a possible new homeowner wants to see the old backsplash. She says it’ll increase the value of the home to have a real tile backsplash and removing it will force us to replace all drywall behind it.
Before you’re judge her, she doesn’t know much about anything with building, tools, etc. I have an extensive knowledge as well as have been doing my own renovations myself for years before we met. I have tried to express to her that it’s not worth placing a new one over the old one, that it’ll likely just destroy the old tile to try to remove the new backsplash, that we wouldn’t be gaining anything by doing this, but she asked me to reach out here and see if anyone has any ideas.
She means well, I just don’t think this is possible.
She wants a removable backsplash option where we can reveal the existing tile, where it will look decent, if removal is wanted.
I think it’s impossible, not worth the effort and cost, or both.
So, can I get some thoughts?
