Electricians, who were referred to us by a few neighbors, recently installed four receptacles in our kitchen, so we could have more items plugged in. Kitchen is around 10x10, maybe a little smaller.
When I used this outlet, with an air fryer (from what I understand, an energy hog), it kept tripping the breaker — on the living room circuit. Context: There were other items on the living room circuit that also were on at the time. Once we moved the air fryer over to an outlet on the kitchen circuit, there were no problems.
See illustration attached to post. The squares in blue are outlets on the living room/dining room circuit. The outlets in orange are on other circuits.
The new kitchen outlets are at the blue square in the upper right.
So I have two questions:
- Why would those outlets be attached to the living room circuit and not the kitchen circuit?
- Were these electricians shortcut-takers who we shouldn't use again?
- Does this say anything about the wiring of our place in general? It's an early 1980s townhouse.
Thanks for any advice you can provide.
