Is it just me or do the new models feel like a massive downgrade?

I haven't kept up with hololive in a few years, hopped on ames channel and guras channel and saw they got new models. Haven't checked the other models yet. But the new models just look kinda creepy to me and look like a downgrade.
How is it we go from the really adorable old models to the weird 3d ones? Even Shylily upgraded her model and her new model is 100x better than when she started.
