One of the biggest points in the Beach Boys' tumble from popularity in the United States was their failure to perform at the 1967 Monterrey Pop Festival. At the time, they claimed this was due to the lack of new material. Smile* was in what could be described as a legal and developmental hell at the time.
What if the album was completed in time for the performance, and the Beach Boys subsequently close the festival?
