The events of this particular civil war spelled the end of the republic and set many things in place for Octavian to eventually form the Principate. What do you guys think would have happened to the Republic if Caesar had been defeated instead ? Let's say for the scenario, Caesar is delayed with some problems either in Gaul or on the march to italy, and Pompey manages to use this time to raise enough legions and decides to stay in Rome, and beats Caesar in Italy. Perhaps we can make it a battle of the Rubicon lol.
- What happens to the Republic ?
- Obviously no Egypt Expedition, what happens there ?
- Is there still an empire at some point ?
- What happens to Caesar's conquests, deemed ''illegal'' ?
- What happens to the Julii ?
- Where does Brutus stand on all this at this point ?
