Đorđe Petrović, better known as Karađorđe, was a Serbian nationalist and one of the leading figures in their independence from the Ottoman Empire. Notably, he was created the Grand Vožd of Serbia, effectively their monarch, but was exiled in 1813 after suffering defeat against the Ottomans, leaving another Serbian Rebel, Miloš Obrevnović, to lead Serbia in a second revolt. Karađorđe had been previously arrested by the Austrians but had managed to relocate to Bessarabia, but by 1815, after hearing of Obrevnović’s victory, planned to return to Serbia. Obrevnović, hearing of this, feared losing power and thus had Karađorđe assassinated.
So what is Miloš Obrevnović did nothing, and allowed Karađorđe to return? Would this mean the permanent return of the Karađorđević dynasty to Serbia happens far earlier than it did in our timeline? Would he just be an irrelevant has-been? Or would there be something in between? What would the Ottomans do in reaction to this? How would this change the course of Balkan, and probably further European history?
