A messenger arrives in Vienna, approaching the Hofburg, to deliver a message allegedly written by the King of France. The messenger wears a rather large Tricolour cockade, and claims to be a member of the National Guard of France.

It is with the greatest displeasure that I hear of your transgressions in the East. Waging such an unjust war has drawn the ire of myself, the Royal Family, and that of the National Assembly of France. I am afraid that I have no choice but to demand the absolute withdrawal of your forces, as well as the forces of the Prussians, from the territory of Poland, ante bellum. I am under the understanding that there have been treaties signed without certain knowledge of those signing, and for that I do offer a compromise. Should Austria and Prussia withdraw from Polish territory, I would be happy to personally arbitrate on the terms of that specific treaty.

In addition to arbitration from the Polish lands, I do offer my full and total support in driving away the Turkish invaders from your territory.

If you and Prussia do not withdraw forces from Poland, I am afraid that I have seen fit to declare war, to restore order to the East and to put an end to your blatant aggression.

I am writing you with the greatest of sorrows that the Kingdom of France has been overrun by revolutionaries. The King is held captive in Versailles, and there is no doubt that your sister is in the gravest of dangers. I implore you to ignore any message written by the insurrectionist National Convention. I beg you to supply me with an army to rescue the King, your sister, and their children, and to allow me to restore order to France. I am currently in the city of Mainz, and should be crossing to Rhine soon. From there, I will make my way to Vienna to meet with you, if possible.
