Moulding the Metal
Post Body

The Age of Four Suns may have resulted in the abandoning of the west by the Jušerin, but that was not the only result of the raids. The most important result was the acquiring of the orange coloured metal known as Bronze. To the Jušerin this metal was known as Uhürl. The majority of Uhürl was taken by the raiders who continuously attacked the Melakites to the west as well as enslaved blacksmiths who were forced to share their art form. While the blacksmiths did not readily give their secrets, as slaves they did not really have any choice. Using Hürl was a major step in the technological advancements of the Jušerin who were used to using weapons made of stone or wood, the use of metal vastly improved their military capabilities.

The first use of Uhürl was weapons usually spearheads and arrowheads however the use soon expanded to jewellery and luxury goods. While the blacksmiths of the Jušerin were crude, the jewellery they would make would have a rustic charm to them. The jewellery would become common among Ak Khiig shamans as well as the more successful clansmen who were powerful enough to afford having a blacksmith in their clan. The use of Uhürl actually became quite a spiritual action, being adopted by the Ak Khiig as a noble devotion of their time to the Khiig itself. It is known that labour is a simple devotion to the Khiig, so the combination of physical labour and intricate design would be one of the greatest devotions. Because of this, the blacksmiths largely united with the Ak Khiig, becoming talented weapon smiths and jewellers who would supply their clan with enough metals to fund a war party. An oddity though was that while the Ak Khiig would do the forging, their assistants would all be women. The only men allowed in the forge was the Master and the Apprentice Ak Khiig, then there would be a group of at least 2-3 women who would assist around the forge and ensure nothing went wrong.

The problem with Uhürl however is that it was a combination of two metals, two metals that would have to be obtained by the Jušerin shaman-smiths. Those two metals known as Copper and Tin were luckily commonly found within the Great Land Sea, despite this though the majority of tin that was used in the forging was taken from raids, caravans, or just through trade itself. Because of this the Jušerin did not have an incredibly large amount of Uhürl and it was more of a luxury item that only the richest and most powerful could readily afford. Despite Uhürl being luxury, the Jušerin still found ways of equipping their best warriors with as much as possible, even if it had to be stolen off another group of people. This begun to be known as the "Blood Price", a cultural tradition in which it was known to be more honourable if you had gained something through the use of violence or intimidation. Because of the lack of sedentary nature among the Jušerin there was no established shops or stalls, instead many would try to violently take the goods they needed and wanted rather than bartering as would be common in a village or a city.

As the art of forging was considered spiritual, a common oral prayer was passed down among the Ak Khiig:

I kneel before the fire,

I kneel before the Khiig,

I kneel before the ancestors,

The ones who will imbue this metal,

The ones who will guide my hand,

The ones who I show devotion to,

I lift my voice to the heavens,"

In humble service to the Khiig,

Uukhai, Uukhai, Uukhai.
