With the emergence of the Nahualteca from their seven caves, the fifth age of Man had begun. The ones that preceded were still poorly understood by the still-burgeoning Nahualteca, who would no doubt conduct rigorous enquiry into the matter as soon as was possible. In fact, the mechanism that had led to the destruction of the fourth age was still poorly understood; but what was clear to the cutting edge of the ancient's science was that Huitzilopochtli had been the man of the hour.
It was Huitzilopochtli who had instructed the Nahualteca to emerge from their caves, and who had told them that they would also be able to go by the name of "Mexica" henceforth, if "Nahualteca" felt too repetitive. And it was Huitzilopochtli who was responsible for all the light and fire in the world, in his capacity as master of the sun. And it was Huitzilopochtli who demanded a costly tribute of fresh hearts to sustain this activity.
This much was clear, a matter of objective fact. Contention remained, however, as to his origins and nature. To some, he was the sun itself, born from virgin birth, in constant battle with his siblings (the moon and stars) for supremacy of the heavens. To others, he was merely its creator; he had been born into a family of gods of good standing, had shone through his brilliance, and eventually been tasked by the greater divine collective to begin the creation of the earth, the sun, and everything within it, as part of a joint effort with his brother, Quetzalcoatl.
But what if both were true? An emerging theory in certain quarters expertly reconciled the two, in the following way:
The goddess Coatlicue was hitchhiking in the Great Basin when she stumbled across a ball of feathers. After inspecting the object, she judged it prudent to store it in her person for later usage. Unbeknownst to her, this ball of feathers inseminated her, and she soon gave birth to a large adult son, Huitilopochtli. Her other children were outraged. The only reasonable way to right this wrong was fratricide, so Coatlicue's children declared war on their newly born brother.
Still too young to face off this horde, Huitlipochtli knew there was only one possible course of action. He used his sun powers to transport himself into the far past, before the first age. He knew he had to be given birth to by the gods of creation, Tonacatecutli and Tonacacihuatl. He spied on them, invisible, as they engaged in intercourse, and transformed into a seed. He flew into his father through the quickest route (the butthole), and was planted into his mother. He grew fast and was eventually given birth to.
At last, the chance for a normal life. Huitzilopochtli grew in a loving zeroth-age family. However, as he ventured into adulthood, his parents granted him the power to create fire, and instructed him to use this power to permanently light up a giant ball of fire in the sky, which would illuminate the Earth (which was also something he was going to have to help create). Huitzilopochtli saw this was too much effort, and once again, Fate was forcing his hand.
The only way to proceed was to go back in time, to the moment of intercourse - or more precisely, seeding: for when the seed enters a woman, there is a brief window of time when the seed exists in two states, its past state - that of the man's blanchâtre cream - and its future state - that of the baby. Huitzilopochtli extracted the past state, and brought it back with him into the future. Here, he was able to split it open with an obsidian knife, mimicking the seeding process. His newly birthed form was to become the Sun, but as hit had been born prematurely (without a period of gestation), it would be entirely at the whims of its correctly-born twin.
Time passed and finally caught up to Huitzilopochtli's miraculous escape. Huitzilopochtli was now a mature god, full of wisdom and power. And so began the eternal war in the heavens.
