Many cycles ago, Teç - the God of Creation and Light - made a very, very big mistake.

You see, Teç had a wife - Ponderet. A very controlling, demanding, and very chaste wife. Teç did not like this, but certainly could not just dump his celestial wife with incredible powers. This just mean that, whenever he could, he would secret away another woman to "spend some time with", then stash her on one of many worlds throughout the night sky in case he ever wanted to come back for seconds.

What he didn't expect, however, is for one of these rendezvous to get pregnant. But one did. And here, on the world of Doebi, Koina gave birth to the first children of Teç.

These children spread across Doebi, settling about and multiplying. But soon they became too numerous, and Ponderet took notice. In her rage at Teç's infidelity, she flooded the world with all manner of deadly creatures, from snakes to tigers, rhinos, and so many others.

Teç could not stop his wife, but nor could he stand idly by as his children were killed. So under the cover of night, he came down to Doebi and from the ground carved vast networks of underground caverns for his children to take shelter in. These were the first Vüolts. And they worked - his children were able to shelter, live, and thrive out of these Vüolts.

Eventually the people of Doebi became too numerous and too widespread to only live out of these underground homes and left these earthen Vüolts, forming settlements around Vüolts they made themselves, but always on the lookout for more Vüolts left by Teç himself to turn into shrines to his blessings.

The current Vüolt state is very federalized, with local settlements making most decisions on local laws, spending, and organization. The central governing body, the Sarawak Council, is based in the first and largest Vüolt ever created by Teç, the Vüolt of Teç. It is made up of a representative from every Vüolt settlement, split into divisions most useful for advocating for regional needs of monetary support, trade rulings, and defensive needs. Each settlement is centered around a handmade underground chamber where local decisions on laws and spending are made, and which serves as a defense shelter in cases of attack. The original, natural Vüolts still serve as communities for some, but most of the smaller ones found around the land in which the Vüolt people reside usually serve as shrines to Teç or the other minor Gods, seen as direct connection to the divines.

There is no telling what the future holds for the Vüolt people, but while their origins may be from underground, their fate certainly will not end there.
