The power of the Oba-Ifa fa Sùsi was restored after a period of turmoil and the Alááshu took her chance by outfitting a caravan to brave the sands towards Sali, the southernmost outpost of Sùsi rule. At the head of the caravan was a sÃrÃcheche, a diplomat, by the name of Urò-égé. Their goal was to visit Khenfira and meet with Oba Bajja Hanif and the Tariqate. They had several objectives and to placate the King, Urò-égé had received a complement of fifty slaves from the Ã’játé Ubèmè, the Orange Banner. These men were veterans and had received a final direct order from the Alááfin, which was to serve the remainder of their life under whoever Urò-égé instructed them to serve. He also carried silk, gold and salt, the latter of which they would pick up in the desert.
