As the Phrygians came into the new land, they saw that it was vast and fertile, and rivers ran throughout. The locals had named it "Panjshiristan", which meant the land of the five rivers ; accordingly, the Phrygians named it Pentapotameia. The land would provide much better pasture - and perhaps farmland that was better still - than the land they had left to the West. For this reason, Narsês decided he would organise the resettlement of his people in better lands.

His campaign would be twofold. First of all, he would have to tame the extant natives ; and secondly, he would move the Phrygians to the new land, luring them with promises of abundance.

In the East, Narsês' army advanced against the threat of gunpowder, which they were learning to deal with. Tyreian fortifications were frequently built close to the front lines, and in battle the Phrygians came to adopt more infantry ; in particular, the Order of Saint Mikhaêl proved to be just as skilled on foot as on horseback. Cavalry retained an important role due to Prhgyian tradition, and was frequently employed to overwhelm the enemy and deny them time to reload or regroup. Success was slow but certain.

Once the lands were subjugated, Narsês began to spread tales of the wondrous lands to the East, tales which were confirmed by the many Phrygians that had already settled there. In time, many of the lands along the great river that never reached the sea were settled.
