The Northern Saxons were a rough, barbaric type compared to their more settled and civilized southern brothers. While Zintra slowly brought more and more under their fold and the Palatinate remained a cabbage patch of random duchies and lords who grew fat on their wine, Havelland and their lords were out raiding each other and waging war where they could. Strength and power was what was respected in the north, and as the region was not one inclined to economic success it was normal for one to achieve said success by taking it from others. They wore mostly furs and fought with long pikes and war axes. They had heavy cavalry with long spears and swords, used as shock troops in conjunction with their long lines of infantry. Their culture was quite feudal in nature albeit with less grandeur than their southern neighbors, as their lords were more of a warlike nature than usual, and less academic than others.
In the core of Havelland, in the east, it was a wooded and swampy area. This was where the center of the political force in the region, the House of von Ribbeck, was situated. However it provided little more than wood and sustenance farming. As you went west into the regions bordering the Palatinate region, there became more and more large towns and cities lorded over by groups of burghers, growing rich off the mineral and salt trade in the north. Ritter were spread throughout the land, owning their small estates and constantly training for war for their liege lords. Major cities like Luneburg, Anklam, and Berlin grew in size and richness.
The entirety of Havelland was Vuugist, as a mix of druidic and landed clergy sprinkled the land. While a new idea, associated with clovers and formed by a monk named Adler, was beginning to reach the ears of the edges of the Duchy of Saxe-Hoya many still remained with the old ways. As many settled down many druids formed groups of clergy based around holy grounds and churches that began to spring up in the northern lands while some still remained druidic and travelling in nature. This region, like in other ways, was the slowest to adopt to the new ways that the south had already adopted. Nevertheless, the region also remained independent due to another reason; Havellanders were extremely Vuugist and extremely Germanic, having history of bad blood with the eastern Slavs of the Polans and Sorbs and disliking anyone not of Germanic heritage. This has lead to a continuous system of purging those who refused their Vuugist past and a xenophobic culture against those who would come into their lands as a non-German. These reasons would lead to Havelland becoming a refuge for those who wished for the old ways and a continuous push against these rapid new changes.
