Adler the Preacher
Post Body

High in the mountains of Karpaten lies a monastery. Here in the monastery, a dozen or so monks reside, as they have for generations. These monks do not follow the teachings of the Waugst, but those of Heiter. Indeed, Heitertum was quite popular in the region, but this monastery was quite special.

A monk, by the name of Adler, awoke early one morning, before the sun had risen. In the night, strange dreams had come to him. Drenched in sweat, and fearing for what was happening to him, it took him many hours before he could sleep. He wrote, frantically and manically, of all that he experienced in his dreams.

He wrote of the voices speaking to him, of the messages conveyed to him, seemingly from Waug himself. A great black eagle, with two heads, spoke to him from his dreams. It spoke to him with two conflicting voices, two messages; two warnings.

For many weeks, Adler secretly wrote of his visions, infiltrating his dreams. In the teachings of Heiter, it is told that only a select few, those who have trained for such a purpose, can receive visions. Most commonly, the Crows received visions. Adler, nothing but a simple monk, received such visions.

After weeks upon weeks of receiving visions, and recording them, Adler was eager to share. The monastery was not the place to share them, however, as his fellow monks were as old and immovable to change as the mountains the monastery was built upon. Thus, it was decided that Adler would venture away from the monastery, abandoning the way of the monks, and would seek to preach to a crowd.

The nearest settlement of note was Munkatsch, once the seat of power for the Count of Munkatsch. Now, the castle in the centre of town lie empty, save for a few garrisoned guards. The town thrived, as much as a town in such a desolate and meagre country could. Though the hills were rich in silver and iron, the land was not particularly fertile, and thus there were few people to extract it. Most of the manpower was dried up sustaining itself. The metals that were extracted, however, were sent to richer towns. The mines were owned by Bauernritter from Pressburg, and as such none of the wealth reached Munkatsch. Nevertheless, Munkatsch sat as a place for many to buy and sell goods. Those brave enough to venture through the mountains could trade with merchants from Lemberg, and goods from Wallachei or from Koschau occaisonally trickled in. As such, on any given day you could find a decent crowd in the town square.

Adler entered the town from the north, on the back of a travelling merchant's cart he managed to convince to be allowed to tag along. Friendly and chipper, the merchant made conversation with him, and even offered Adler a place to stay for a few nights, until the Merchant made his way to Koschau.

At the centre of town, sat a small church. A small wooden building, Adler approached. A small sermon was ongoing, with the Heiterisch priests giving their service. Adler patiently waited in the back, until the service was finished. Adler approached the priests, and asked for the high priest. Upon hearing his story, and observing his writings, the high priest was not amused. Bordering on heresy, he told Adler to leave immediately, and, if he knew what was good for him, he would forget all about these so-called visions.

Adler was not terribly charismatic, but after a few attempts, he did manage to convince a few people to listen to his learnings. After being kicked out of town for heresy, Adler began to give his sermons in a fallow field near the town. Filled with clover, Adler gained a small following. A few dozen people came to his weekly sermons, and were taught of the teachings of the Doppeladler, of the Will of Waug, and of Heiter's Incarnations.

Adler spoke of the Copper Bell that would awaken Suhl, and deliver humanity into the heavens. He spoke of the Doppeladler, and how it is a representation, or a manifestation, of Waug and Suhl. He concluded that the two, Suhl and Waug, were but two manifestations of the same being. Seperated for some cosmic reason, the ringing of the Copper Bell would reunite the two beings, and Waug Reunited would be powerful enough to face the demons of the Third Plane.

Although his following was not terribly large, what he had to say was profound. It was not only Heiterischer people who came to listen to him speak, but those who followed the Waugst too.

As many priests and established clergy did not allow Adler to preach in the cities, temples, and churches, he always gave his sermons in empty fields. Eventually, the clover became associated with him and his sermons. Those who followed him and his teachings placed clovers in their hair and clothes, to subtly signal to each-other that they followed him. The movement was small, but growing quickly.
