What would have been the implications if an eastern empire, like the Persians, were able to expand into Europe during the ancient or classical ages?
Post Body

From what I understand, the development of what we now recognize as Western culture (democracy, certain types of law codes, etc.) can be traced to the classical ages of Europe with civilizations like the Greeks and Romans What I am asking is what would have been the implications (with a stress on culture) if an eastern empire was able to conquer and hold a large area of Europe for an extended period of time? Would the modern idea of the West be completely different? What are some other significant (possible) implications? Thanks in advance
