May I suggest as a historical romance, Timeline by Michael Crichton. It is a time travel, action movie, type book (don't watch the movie, it's not good), but the love story is really good! It's very Pride & Prejudice but they do it right. The guy likes the girl pretty much from the start, but he's not boyfriend material and she tells him so. Then he actually grows as a person through the book. It is very well done and it's set in both the present and medieval France. There is a fun secondary love story as well.
Anyone else a fan?
Also, just to talk about the movie again, they leave out a joust! A joust I tell you! And they are imprisoned in a thatch roof house which the main character is like, "We're smarter than these people, we can get out." It annoyed me so much, people 600 years ago knew not to imprison people in a house with a permeable roof. In the book they are locked in a dungeon, as they should be.
