Audio out problems

The audio keeps cutting out and displaying this, selecting either does nothing and it just keeps asking. I've been trying everything from unplugging, waiting, plugging back in, unplugging and power cycling, resetting to default audio settings, changing the digital audio to PCM. Nothing is working and I don't really know what to do. Is this a problem with the speakers themselves? Has anyone else had this issue?
