For those who have boats - what's the closest place to launch and how close can the boats stop and anchor? Is it where to buoys are? And is the only way to get from boat to shore/shore to boat to swim that far?
Just curious. Would be fun to boat sometime.
No boats ramps are officially open. Pace Bend has launch, but it's not for the weak, requires 4wd, and is miles from the park.
Mansfield Park is close and has a great ramp but it has been closed due to low water level since last summer.
Unless you have a boat in a slip in a marina I think thereโs nothing to do but pray for a shitload of rain in the next few months.
We just swim to shore if we want to go ashore. I suppose you could use a kayak or a SUP.
Keep in mind it is a very deep channel and getting enough scope to get a decent hold means carrying at least a couple hundred feet of rode. It is probably 70โ deep at the buoys.
Negative.
Anchor rode. Typically it is a combination of chain and rope.

I'd highly recommend taking a look at some charts to get an idea of the bottom contours. Travis can be a challenging lake because there are a lot of shoals that become hazards depending on the lake level.
But, yeah. We had our boat in last summer and I had 150' of rode out and we were still maybe only 2:1, which is nowhere near enough to really hold. It was very light wind that day and we stayed with the boat the whole time so it wasn't an issue, but if there's more wind/waves or you plan on going ashore and leaving the boat for a while, you're going to need a lot of rode.
