I’ve had hip pain for 18 months, two lots of physical therapy didn’t improve it and have just had an X-ray and MRI. The X-ray didn’t show anything but the MRI listed the following. My appointment with the specialist is in 2 weeks. Is anyone able to help me interpret the results before the surgeon explains it to me? Thank you

Findings

Labrum: tearing of the superior through anterior superior labrum.

Ligaments. Thickening and intermediate signal intensity of the ligamentum teres which may represent degenerative changes.

Tendons: insertional tendinosis and peritendinitis of the gluteus minimus tendon. Mild insertional of the proximal hamstring tendons.

Osseous and cartilaginous structures: focal cortical irregularity and narrow edema like signal of the anterior facet of the greater trochanter near the gluteus minibus insertion. Chondra heterogeneity of the superior lateral joint space with possible delamination.

Musculature: borderline narrowing of the ischiofemoral space with mild intramuscular edema of the quadratic femoris muscle. Fatty atrophy of the gluteus minimus.

Impressions

1. Tearing of the superior and anterior superior labrum. Adjacent chondral heterogeneity at the superlateral joint space with possible delamination.

2. Insertional tendinosis and peritendintis of the gluteus minimus tendon.

3. Focal cortical irregularity and marrow edema like signal of the greater trochanter anterior facet near the gluteus minimus insertion.

4. borderline narrowing of the ischiofemoral space with mild intramuscular edema of the traversing quadratics femoris muscle. Correlate clinically for symptoms of ischiofemoral impingement.
