What does Islam say about right of woman to ask her husband for relations

I'm curious if we would like to more are we allowed to ask or must we only when he asks or requests? Are we allowed to complain about frequency or ask for what we might enjoy or is it up to him only? I'm a revert so I didn't grow up, in Islam and my society: no is no and women are allowed to ask, so I'm curious what verses or advice on handling this. [f only answers preferred]
