This is a how to post.
As all know Gou ended last week (and most of the flagship animes will end or already end this week) and most of us might have no more things to do. Here's a suggestion to live up your Higurashi Thursday until Sotsu comes.
- Read the original VNs (or the manga counterpart).
As you all complaining about this or that with the reference from VN I suggest now is the best time to read the VN. If you can allocate 1 hour per day (not everyday though) reading it you can finish it right at the time Sotsu comes (or when it end, if you want to compare the endings side by side). Better if you have a good rapid reading skills. Manga is quite faster to read and it follows tight the VN, but you might want to set up Higurashi OST in the background to give it full experience.
- Watch the original anime
For newcomers who are curious of how the original have been but you want focus on Gou first before I suggest this is the best time to catch up on them. Allocate 2 episode per week and you finish both S1 and Kai right before Sotsu (or if you can, Rei also). Sure its not perfect, but it is already a good experience (the only thing DEEN did right, probably compared to other VN adaptations). Also good for a revisit or to compare between DEEN and Passionate.
- Read the console arcs or its manga counterpart
For those who have done the originals before I suggest that you check up all extra arcs in the VN. Some of them has a manga counterpart too. It has different take of events parallel to original chapter with new characters and stuffs, and some of them are good to read. Just take note most of them are not from Ryukishi hence harder to consider it as canon.
- Read Umineko and Ciconia
I know most of you make too much of buzz because of the whole Umineko and Ciconia, so this is the right time to catch on to them. You'll know closer Bernkastel, Featherine, Lambdadelta etc whatever related to Gou before. Just take note Ciconia is *quarterly complete and Umineko has the same length as Higurashi VN (or longer, I believe). If you ran out of time just read the manga (for Umineko)
- Read more 07thExpansion
Do read Higanbana and Rose Guns Days too! The copies run out a while ago but you might can get it somewhere
- Read more Ryukishi
He did wrote in other companies too, whether as a sole writer or route writers (he did wrote Lucia route in Rewrite, a Key VN and now working on another called Looper). Look out for Iwaihime too!
- Read Kanon and Tsukihime
Key and Type Moon is what inspire the storyline of Higurashi. The reason of Kanon is because they are more similar in themes (AIR is a bit different and CLANNAD was not out until Tatarigoroshi was done), and Tsukihime (get ready for the remake VN) because of Ciel. Do watch Kanon 2006 anime too, but not Tsukihime (err, the anime is just "not a Tsukihime" adaptation).
- Play Daybreak.
While it is not translated, just pretend you understand it. Choose between PC, PSP or PSP-Mega or play all version. Just at least watch Rei (EP5) first for context.
- Play Umineko Golden Fantasia.
If you did read Umineko. It is translated and available in Steam.
- Put Kira on Repeat Every Week
If you have nothing better to do. Just getting a calm before a storm feeling, probably.
- Karaoke or replay every vocal OST of Higurashi
Another "nothing better to do" thing.
- Do whatever you want
As long you can get yourself sane and alive for Sotsu, I think. Just dont let your neck feel itchy because of your L5-inducing lifestyle.
Thanks for wasting time reading this.
