Midnight Horizon reading requirements

I was going through Main Story path provided by this subreddit which doesn't involve junior novel/comics at all
But i heard that for Midnight Horizon which is in Main Story path i have to read junior novels aswell. Is this true? What should i do? Originally i wanted just to read the Main Story order to catch up before phase two (Currently on the comics of Wave 1 so please no spoilers) and later read the rest in the Completionist order
