So I saw my HS Specialist a week ago Monday, and I was having some pretty good flare ups since I've been weened off the steroid. The Humira by itself isn't cutting it. It sucked because I was really hoping it would work better for a little while at least. It is working somewhat, I'm not as bad off as I was without it, just not good either.
So my doctor put me on Metformin. He said that recent studies and his own experience has been showing that Metformin actually helps with HS, but there is no studies yet as to why. I was skeptical, I mean, I don't have diabetes, my blood sugars are always fine, A1C fine, etc. Why would a diabetes med help? Also, would it cause me to start having low blood sugars which causes all sorts of other issues? What about all the intestinal issues it causes, I really don't need more of those.
Well, so far, I'm pleasantly surprised. It seems like it's calming down my HS (with the Humira still). I haven't had any low blood sugar issues (like dizziness) and very little intestinal issues.
So, I'm just curious, has anybody else here been put on Metformin for their HS?
