Status Update: 6 weeks on Inflectra
Post Body

I wanted to post an update. I've posted here a few times and I had posted a while back that I was switching from Humira to Inflectra.

A quick recap: I have severe stage 3 HS. I get it in my hair, neck, under my arms, my groin, perennial region, and my butt. Humira helped some, I stopped getting them in my hair and on my neck, and decreased the severity of some of them, but it just wasn't doing enough. So 6 weeks ago I switched to Inflectra. I'm on the 10mg/kg dosing, which is the maximum strength they do.

I'm excited to report that so far everything is going great. The abscesses on my butt and perennial region have stopped flaring and are healing up. I still have one in my groin area that is being difficult, but the others have healed up. Under my arms are starting to heal up too. Instead of being beet red and constantly painful and leaking, the leakage has gone way down and the redness is now more like a bad sunburn. Definitely healing going on.

I just finished my initial doses of Inflectra. I had my first dose, then another 2 weeks later, than another does last Friday which was at week 6. From here on I get them ever 6 weeks.

I'm having no negative reaction from the Inflectra. The only hard part is the infusion center I go to is a bit slow and it typically takes me 6 hours to get the infusion. 2 hours waiting for the pharmacy to mix the meds, then 3 1/2 hours of infusion time, and then there is typically another hour lost at the beginning and end as I'm waiting to be called back or waiting for them to take out the IV.

But that is the only bad side so far. I'm feeling much much better and my quality of life has increased a ton. I'm looking forward to continued healing.

Of course, with the COVID-19 stuff going on I have to be super careful. The Inflectra does impact your immune system a lot harder than Humira does. So wash and use a mask and keep distances from everyone is the key!
