I have a rash. My doctor swabbed it and sent out a PCR for hsv.
My PCR came back negative. My doc thought it didn't look totally consistent with herpes to begin with.
However, in the midst of educating ourselves, my boyfriend got an IgG and he definitely has HSV-1. Even with that knowledge, he is certain he has always been completely asymptomatic. He thinks he has potentially had it since childhood- his mom has it.
I went back to my doc to ask questions and getan order for my own IgG. She was not sure of transmission rates of hsv-1if it's completely asymptomatic. She said her sense is that it's extremely unlikely, but she doesn't know the statistics off the top of her head.
I briefly tried to find some info, but the data was marred by unreliable reporters.
Any resources, or wisdom, or anything to share would be greatly appreciated!
