I just traveled a long way to meet someone I had been talking to for many months. Upon my return home I developed a cold sore which I seem to get maybe once a year, definitely brought on with stress.
I casually mentioned this to him as part of my travel woes and was lectured and made out to be super dirty in addition to putting him at risk (oral to genital contact occurred with no sores present). I've never heard that disclosing a past of cold sores as a thing.
Of course now that I'm specifically reading about it, non scientific sources suggest disclosure. It was my understanding that the virus is dormant in a huge percentage of the population. Maybe I'm not educated enough on genital vs oral herpes and the protocol that comes along with it. I've never had genital sores and have had throrough exams and labwork for STis in my past.
Did I handle this incorrectly? I am taken aback as I am always cognizant about being safe.
