Hernia Post Op Observations
Post Body

I am now 72 hours out of my hernia surgery at my preferred world-class hospital in Boston, and I am pissed.

The pre op was outstanding. World class. Then they totally dropped the ball, because they forgot about recovery. They were so focused on pre op, they couldn’t manage to do two things well at the same time. Well, least they got one of them right!

I’m angry because I was not given ice in the recovery room. I am angry because I was not adequately coached on how important it is to ice after hernia surgery.

In the stupor of post operative sedation, it took me more than 12 hours to get religion about icing my lower abdomen . Because of the organizational incompetence of this otherwise excellent hospital, my recovery was significantly and painfully delayed, and I am angry.

Is my anger not appropriate?

I have many concrete proposals…
