.3cm Umbilical Hernia and Weight-Lifting
Post Body

Hi All,

I began lifting (squats, deadlifts, etc.) about 7 months ago, and have noticed a small change in my belly button (basically being slightly less of an innie, but definitely not an outie). I got my ultrasound yesterday and the radiology report says a .3cm umbilical hernia filled with fat. It's painless.

I'm waiting to hear from my doctor, but am a bit unsure what to do in the interim. Lifting has become very important to my physical and mental health and I am reluctant to stop prematurely if this issue is minor or slow to advance. I understand that these types of hernias can and often do get bigger, but I'm wondering how quickly they tend to progress and whether I can keep lifting while I wait for a plan. I only work out in small classes with a coach present, so I know that my form is good and that I am not going over my limit.

Thank you!
