Why have so many hermits left this season?

I was spending my winter break catching up on Hermitcraft and its making me so sad with the amount of Hermits that have just disappeared. Ethos, Biffa and beef are just the ones I've noticed so far. I am pretty sure there are others.
Why have so many been leaving?
I know there was some rl drama between Iskull and some of the other hermits. Was this the reason?
