His details/history:
He is 64 years old.
We recently found out he is of Scandinavian and Celtic (i.e. North European) descent.
He has, for the past 15-20 years had unexplained fatty liver (he rarely drinks), and also unexplained high iron levels.
Today we got the results of a blood test that was carried out due to abdominal and digestive issues. Apparently the doctor was happy with them and didn't want to see him about them, but I requested he get a print off. Lo and behold - Serum Ferritin of 478 ug/L, and a Serum ALT level of 51 u/L (lab normal level is <41). Unfortunately they didn't test his transferrin saturation level.
His other symptoms are -
Quite severe fatigue
Brain fog to a degree
General weakness
Joint pain
Erectile dysfunction
Lower libido
Lots of stomach issues - they reckon he has diverticulitis. Constipation, stomach pain (especially on left lower abdomen), reflux - all happen to him on an almost daily basis.
Chest pain sometimes
Irregular heartbeat
Shortness of breath at the slightest provocation - he is a bit overweight and not very fit at the moment but he literally can get out of breath after taking his socks off!
We are going to contact the GP to ask for further testing of course, but just wondering if it is likely that he could have Hemochromatosis. I know often people on these sorts of pages are often far more knowledgeable than GPs!
Thanks!!
