How come Greeks inside Greece have such a poor understanding of Hellenism (as a religion)?

I was just looking what different groups, discords, subreddits, etc of people asking Greek people what they thought of Hellenism, i.e. the religion of the ancient Greeks.
Some think it's a new age movement, some think it's more of a political stance against Christianity than a religion, some think the ancient Greeks viewed religion more philosophical than devotionally. Most seen very ignorant on the religion of ancient Greece and what Hellenism is today. I just imagine the YSEE doesn't make things better in that regard though.
But why do think this is? And any way to inform/educate them? I would make a post on the Greece subreddit but I don't speak Greek and they don't seem to open to the idea of learning about it.
