Nobody wants to defend. I get it. I get that it's not that sexy "take the hill, storm the trenches" type of play style, but you're going to lose without defense. You will always lose.
I'm not normally ones to make these posts, but some of the games I had last night nearly pushed me over the edge. Even people in my squad were telling me they're "going to the front to fight, defense is boring." We lost the game about 10min later.
If you look at the map and the entire team is attacking, then something is wrong. Commander isn't looking at the map. Squad leaders aren't looking at the map. Nobody is looking at the map. The situational awareness is out the window.
My buddy said something the other night and it's 100% true. "If you want to get in to a gun fight, play Defense. They're going to come to you. I promise they will."
They'll always come because the other team, like ours, is always going to attack, no matter what. Even if the last point is being contested, people will still try and attack the next point.
People want to push and push and push. As soon as you capture an objective, everyone wants to sprint to the next point. You gotta stick around and clear it out. You think all the enemies magically vanished when you took that point? Sure, their garrisons and OPs probably popped, but I'm sure there are guys still hanging around and not falling back...because they didn't want to play defense either.
And my last thing goes to commanders/squad leaders...
If we have 3/5 of the points and there are 10min left in the game...please do not start setting up forward garrisons and airheads. That only encourages people to keep on the offensive, take people away from the cap defense and it will lose us the game. I promise. Play defense. Play the point. Don't throw the game...we've been playing for an hour and a half here...don't throw the game.
I don't expect this to change how I see the game being played, but this rant makes me feel a bit better just getting it out there.
Play defense.
