I just played a match, as a German tank commander, with a new player who legitimately did not know where to spawn on the map when the game started.
By the end of the game I had taught him where to shoot enemy tanks, what types of ammo he had, how the map worked, hell how the basics of the game worked! When we finally arrived at Omaha beach with our first tank he realized the map was D-Day, and you bet we died because he was slow on the gun! When we got our next tank we didn't die for 30 minutes! The rest of the game he was having a blast! Once he got in his groove he was laughing himself to death as we blew away the enemy team, destroyed numerous tanks, and won the game.
My little nugget of advice after that game will be to be patient with these new players. Show them the ropes a bit, we've all been there before, and answer any question they have. Before you know it they'll be just as competent as you, they'll be grateful for your help, and the amount of joy they'll be having genuinely makes your experience that much greater.
