Lever on Jetranger cockpit roof

Was watching an episode of 911, and a helicopter had crashed. It was basically intact, engine and rotors still going. After pulling pilot out a firefighter first pushed the collective all the way down then pulled down a lever from the cockpit roof. Am asking what that lever was for. In the show, the engine and rotor started winding down when the lever was pulled
