I can’t deal with my hedgie anymore

Post Body

Firstly, I love him and I love spending time with him but he has exhausted me and my patience and I don’t know what to do anymore.

I’m sitting here writing this after waking up and realizing that he’s escaped again and after searching my entire house I still have no idea where he is, but I found poop and half eaten fruit in my kitchen, with a full bowl of food in his cage.

He escapes constantly. He figured out how to escape cages with bars, C&C cages, and his latest cage, a tall plastic hefty bin with a latching lid. Like, this bin is more than triple his height, I don’t allow him to have things he can climb on anymore, and I lock him in there. I have no idea how he knocks the top off. He doesn’t even eat the food he’s given, he escapes and eats things he really shouldn’t.

I know he isn’t living a good life anymore with a pretty barren cage just because I’m trying to keep him contained and he could be exposing himself to many dangers in my house. Someday (like today) I could accidentally step on him or he could get into my cleaning products. I’ve stayed up and done all nighters to try to see but he never does it while I’m awake. I don’t have spare money for cameras.

I don’t know how to find him, I don’t know how he’s been escaping all the time, and I’m about ready to try to find someone who can better deal with him even though it breaks my heart.

Please give me any advice. Or places where I can take him because I don’t just want to dump him at a shelter, I love him too much for that.
