I was thinking about the whole incel/alternative view thing that has been talked about lately on here and realized a few things and had a few questions.
The first part is how do we know BS from truly horrifying things. In the early 2000s, alternative media presented concerns people had and opened things up. As the 2010s rolled along, it seems like it turned into a business just like the "mainstream" media and sensationalism took hold (not that it was not there before). Despite some things being bs like the Qanon stuff, there are some atrocities like Operation Northwood, Tuskegee experiment, MK-Ultra, etc. . However, when people call people conspiracy theorist, it does seem like it id dismissing all the true stuff, even if they are pointing to Qanon or the crazy stuff.
With the redpill stuff, there are a lot of things that seems screwy. Pareto distributions are hard to deal with in business, with looking for work, or dating, but in fairness that is online dating. The Book of Numbers (not the book of the Bible) goes into this as well. There are also lots of issues with the family courts , resources for male abuse victims, and a general response of "be a man" when things are not going good for men and men are portrayed as dolts as in media and as evil in general. Also certain policies are blocked because it is not palatable to certain parts of the population (banning circumcision or sex work as an example).
On the opposite end, I do wonder how much of this is hypersocialization/social media and how much of the tik toks are true. Just like not everyone's life is not peaches and cream, but it does make me wonder what percentage of people are rather screwed up? I have seen some examples of both men and women being screwed up, but I have also experienced the opposite too, so I do wonder what % is just social media BS vs people actually are jerks (because it does seem like that is on the uptick as well).
Overall, I dislike when people just kneejerk react to X idea, despite there being deeper issues at play. There are lot of people I disagree with, but I do try to at least semi-educate myself on multiple sides of an issue.
