I do not want to enroll in health coverage until after the “new hire” period at my company ends

Post Body

If I sign up, they will take out money retroactive to February 12th.

I was covered through the end of February by my old insurance. I’ve canceled that insurance, because it sucks.

Is it still a qualifying life event if I cancelled my prior health insurance? Or is the “new hire” timeline of 30 days the only time I’ll be able to sign up until next open enrollment?

I’ve talked to my company’s HR, and don’t think they understand the ramifications that I cancelled my old health insurance.
