Hi reddit! So, Iām double insured and a little ignorant on how insurance works.
The first insurance is Kaiser, which is owned by my mom and Iām on it for another year or so. The second insurance is Primera blue cross from my employer.
On Primera, Iāve noticed that there is a $1500 deductible and a $5000 max out-of-pocket which claims that I paid $10 on (so $4,990). I probably should have asked questions like this before perusing health care (Iām seeing a gastroenterologist for some concerning symptoms which may indicate colon polyps or cancer) and Iām seeing a dentist to deal with cavities.
Online tells me that a deductible is an amount I must pay off before my insurance starts to pay for me. I thought that being double insured would basically āinsureā that I would have to pay next to nothing on medical bills, which I havenāt gotten any in the mail. Now Iām wondering if I owe $1500 and $4,990, which is WAY the fuck beyond my ability to pay off. My Kiaser does not indicate anything on the app like that, probably because my mom is the main insurance head.
Basically, have I dug myself into a hole? If thatās the case it only drives me to continue pursuing the idea of migrating to Canada for free medical care because I already pay these fuckers a portion of my paycheck each month.
