I'm sure you've all been there: cycling home on a dark, rural bike trail next to a canal after a great night getting drunk at a heavy metal concert. So tranquil. But the urge hits you and you make a quick stop to throw up in the bushes (after all, what kind of animal just throws up in the middle of the street? Please - we're civilized here). Unfortunately, you forgot that you left your headphones in the front basket, and it's not until you're 30km closer to home that you notice they ain't there anymore.
RIP Sennheiser HD 4.50 SE. 5 years is a decent run.
I'm sure you can all relate.
So it comes that I need a replacement. I was fairly happy with my 4.50s: I have a pair of Massdrop HD 58Xs at home for critical listening, so usability and style are more salient for my 'daily drivers'. But I'm also at the point where I want my headphones to sound at least ok.
Hence I'm looking for a pair of closed-back bluetooth headphones for everyday use in the 150-250 euro range, with the possibility of going over budget if an option is sufficiently compelling.
For sound, I do a lot of podcast listening. In addition to heavy metal, I listen to Son Lux, Floex, Rone, Gorillaz and Kongos. I enjoy very detailed sound (my favorite-sounding headphones were the AKG K702), although I don't really expect to get that on this budget given my other criteria. As I said - I have headphones at home for critical listening.
For usability, I need closed-back headphones for occasional use in loud places (ANC not necessary) that don't leak and annoy people around me. Button controls preferred over touch; battery life below 20hrs makes me nervous.
For style, I'm intrigued by the brown/silver/on-ear look of the Status BT one or Master & Dynamic MH40. That said, the main thing is that I want to avoid excessively bulky headphones that look kinda silly when worn around town.
Options I've looked at so far are the M&D MH40s wireless (but I've heard poor things about their sound quality at that price); WH-1000XM4s and ATH-M50xBT2s (but the former is a bit expensive and the latter ugly as shit); Hi-X25BTs; and Status BT Ones (but I haven't seen many reviews and I'm worried about what I'm buying at that price point).
Any advice on these options or alternative suggestions I should look at would be much appreciated.
PS: And yes, I'm writing my contact details on the next pair. I know it was dumb of me to never do that with my Sennies. My poor, poor Sennies. :_C
