So I've grown a little sick and tired of wearing headphones all day, because I use my PC for around 8 hours a day easily, and it gets a little tiring having something on my head for that long, and I got to thinking.. what about IEMs?
Thing i s, I don't know if IEMs are for me, either. I'm s omeone who absolutely needs open-backed headphones. I can't do closed back. I caht in Discord fairly often, and when I talk with closed back headphones or IEMs, I feel like I'm talking into my own skull, and I totally hate it. The problem with this, to my knowledge, is that IEms are mostly always going to be closed back. So that's problem number one. Then, I'm not much of a bass head personally. I tend to prefer a hyper detailed sound with extremely good imaging. I'm blind IRL, so when playing video games, I need to be able to pinpoint where something or someone is in a video game, and I find that precise imaging can make an absolutely massive difference for me. But when looking into IEMs, a lot of folks say that no IEM has good soundstage or imaging, which is very offputting. Most IEMs, from what I have seen, are using the Harman target. Which I tried out with another pair of headphones, the DT 1990 Pro, and I didn't really like it. I didn't do much tuning myself after applying the EQ, but I found the bass to be far too much to the point where it would muddy the rest of the track. I prefer Sundara style of bass where things just punch, and a re fast and detailed in the bass region. That's my ideal bass.
So I suppose my question is, with so many aspects of IEms that I'm hesitant a bout, would I still like them? Should I at least give a pair a shot and see how I like them and return them if I don't?
If you think I might want to at least give them a shot, or think that ther emight be a pair out there that could fit m y d escription, here's the type of sound that I like:
Bass: I like my bass to be very detailed, fast, and punchy. Akin to the Sundara.
Mids: My favorite headphone for 7 years was the HD600. I love when headphones have an emphasis on mids, and I have no idea why. I also currently am in love with the Hifiman Ananda, though, so I don't know how those measure when it comes to mids, but I like them as well.
Highs: DT 1990 Pro was far, far too much for me. Ananda is almost perfect, Sundara was perfect. I like highs to be detailed and a little bright, but not super bright.
Honest to god, my perfect sound signature might have been the Sundara. The Ananda is very close, and I love the Ananda far more because of the massive nature of the sound, the superb imaging, etc.
So what do you guys think? Is there an IEM for me? Should I just simply not bother, and invest in some more comfortable earpads?
Thank you very much! <3
