Hi, everyone! I'm in the market for some new IEMs to replace my ancient Shure SE210s, and I'm just not sure where to start. I've had them forever, but since getting a set of Sennheiser HD 599s, I've realized that they're not all that nice to listen to. There's no imaging and they're just overall a bit muddy. I'll be driving them with a few different things, mostly a Zorloo Ztella, a Fiio BTR3, or just the built-in headphone out on my phone or old 6G iPod.
My criteria are:
- I'd prefer something under $150
- MUST have a detachable cable, preferably standard MMCX so I can get a short cable for use with the BTR3
- I want something more neutral and detailed, similar to the sound of the HD 599s mentioned above, but I do understand that IEMs will struggle to get the same spaciousness as open-back over the ear cans
- I do like the warmth the 599s have, just as long as the bass is still tight, and not boomy
- As for genres, it's really all over the place. Swing, jazz, metal, synthwave, bluegrass, it's really everywhere. That's why I'd prefer something neutral.
- As I mentioned, my current experience is with the HD 599, and the SE210s. The SE210s just sound 'restricted' and dull.
- These are mostly going to be for when I'm out and about, so good isolation would be nice. Bonus if I could fit the Shure 'olive' eartips on, because I still have a bag full of them and they fit well
So far I've heard about the Fiio F9 Pro, but that's a little bit higher than I want to pay. Any ideas?
