So back in 2016 I got sick of the poor sound quality of "gaming" headsets. They promise the world and cost a lot, but none of them ever sounded very good. I decided to switch to headphones and got a pair of Fidelio X2s that I have been very happy with, but they are falling apart. I am not an audiophile and I don't know what all the terms mean. I just have a few basic needs and they are:
- Spatial audio is most important to me, I want to hear when people come up behind me.
- Being able to hear voice chat clearly.
- Comfort for long hours of gaming.
Other considerations.
- I will be driving these from an old Soundblaster Z. I hear it does not have the best headphone amp.
- I usually listen at low volume as my ears are pretty sensitive. Usually 6 or 8 out of 100 on windows.
- I don't want to spend more than $200-250
- Build quality is important as they will see a lot of use.
- These will be used almost exclusively for gaming, but I do play a lot of single-player RPGs. I will not be listening to music or movies on these.
- Bass is not super important, but it's nice to have.
