Hello, I have asked for recommendations before and would love it if you could help me again.
Budget
How much would you like to spend? $40-$60USD before tax/shipping
Can you stretch your budget if significant quality/features improve at a slightly higher price point? Not more than around $5.
Source/Amp
What are you plugging the headphones into? My smart phone.
How the gear will be used
I intend to mostly listen to white noise or ambient music or sounds at bedtime. This means I will want to lie on my side while wearing them. Yes, I understand that is unusual and probably makes recommendations difficult, so don't consider it a hard requirement that it be flat or otherwise accommodating to wearing while lying on my side. I cannot wear earbuds. My ears start to itch really bad. I don't know why it happens, I just know that it does happen and makes me unable to use earbuds.
Do you need noise isolation? Mild to moderate noise isolation is preferred. I don't mind being able to hear my fan going, for instance.
Will this be primarily for home listening? Yes.
Do you do a lot of flying (on airplanes)? No.
Are you hard on gear? Sort of, since I will sometimes fall asleep with my current pair of headphones on and also often lie on my side while wearing them. For this reason I would like the headphones to have less bulk if possible, and I would like a detachable cable so that I can replace it when it inevitably goes out. The cable also needs to plug into the headphones in a way that does not make it prone to damage when I lie on my sides.
Preferred tonal balance
Are you a bass-head, focused on accurate acoustic timbre, looking for sparkly treble, or do you want a tonally balanced pair of headphones? I would like balance.
Preferred music genre(s)
What do you listen to? Provide examples if it's something obscure. Not relevant. I'm sure whatever gets recommended will work just fine for whatever music I listen to.
Past gear experience
What have you used in the past? What did you like about it and what didn't you like about it? My current headphones are a pair of Superlux HD-681 EVOs, as a prior recommendation from this sub. They're fine, but the padding for the, err, headband? came off pretty quickly for both pairs, and they have an exposed male 3.5mm aux connector, which I think is where both pairs have ultimately failed, due to me often lying on my side while wearing them (yes, it is uncomfortable, but I kept using them anyway). I'm not sure if a female connector would be more or less resilient.
I like that they are closed, and don't think I would ever want a pair with big holes in them or anything that lets in more outside noise.
Thanks for any help you can give me here. Despite a couple of issues I had, I found my last pair to be a great recommendation, so I'm looking forward to hearing your advice again!
P.S. I didn't see a flair for recommendation threads, so I chose as best I could.
