I had some Arya V2s that I really enjoyed, once I got the EQ dialed-in. The only problem is that they were enormous for me. If I had them on and quickly turned my head, they might end up on my lap.
My favorite headphones that I currently own are still my 6XX. I also have an older-model HE400i, which are nice with EQ, but nothing like the Arya, really. And I have Meze 99s, which have the perfect comfort and size for me, and look as beautiful as the 6XX sounds.
What I'm missing most about the Arya is the wondrously vivid three-dimensional layering and expanse of the soundstage. Every instrument was completely distinct, even if one was directly in front of the other, and I could hear the difference in distance.
My perfect headphone would have the looks and comfort of the Meze 99, the rich, natural tonality of the 6XX, and the imaging and staging of the Arya. It would have to actually fit on my head, too. I generally prefer open-back headphones, but if there was a closed-back that checked all my boxes, I'd happily buy it.
I can't spend more than $2000 on this. I'll be powering it with an MCTH SDAC. My music choices are generally classic rock, jazz, and orchestral. I like solid bass, but I prefer a natural, acoustic, live sound, which means I don't need a lot of sub-bass extension at volume. I want 30Hz to be present, strong, and vibrant, but not as loud as 50 Hz, because that's how live instruments without amplification sound in real life. I want to be able to get good and high, close my eyes, and believe I'm in the concert hall/ jazz lounge/ slacker bar. US resident. Any suggestions?
