I have a used set of Hd6xx headphones on the way and not sure what else I need to make the most of them.

Post Body

I found a good deal on eBay for a set of the hd6xx headphones that look in good condition. I have never had an open back high end pair of headphones before and confused by all the advice on what else I need. I have only ever really used Bluetooth or low/ mid range headphone in the past plugged directly into my laptop or phone.

Do I need to buy an amp? Dac? Or something that does both?

I will normally be using the headphones at my desk and use an external Cd drive to play cds at present. I would ideally like something that worked with my laptop so I can continue to play cds through it

I have a massive Cd and record collection so generally do not stream any music. I listen to all kinds of music with some of the most frequent genres being hip hop, punk, electronic (trip hop / ambient / dnb) and reggae.

I'm excited to hear some higher end headphones and want to make sure I make the most of the new headphones.

I live in Australia in case that matters and my budget is around 200 - 300 Aud

Having something mobile would be awesome but not essential. I do listen to music on my phone when walking but would be okay using a cheap pair of headphones when moving around.

Any advice on what I need to buy to get started is appreciated. I'm hoping to jump on Amazon au right away so I have something arrive quickly.
