So I watched the pilot in 2019 when I saw all the hype around it and then promptly moved on with my life, seeing the characters occasionally as icons and cosplay. I got into Helluva Boss over the summer and got excited for this show via that.
So everyone loves Alastor, he’s constantly the top favorite when polled on here and I just don’t get it. He just feels like a less sinister Bill Cipher to me. I like the deer elements in his design and the radio filter but altogether it feels a bit too much (does he need the monocle?). Also the cannibal serial killer back story feels too early 2000s edgy for me and doesn’t make me like him more. Was he killing children? I wouldn’t stan Albert Fish either. That just grosses me out.
I guess I like characters for their potential connections. Charlie and Vaggie, Charlie and Lucifer, Husk and Angel — those are all potential interesting relationships to explore. But if he’s just a psychopath who won’t be making any connections what’s there to get invested in? I can’t even be thrilled about him just being a powerhouse because it’s confirmed there’s all sorts of characters more powerful than him. I dont find his ~mysterious~ dealings all that interesting because he’s not a villain (like Bill Cipher).
So what am I missing here? Was he just the coolest thing about the pilot and I didn’t catch on?
