I live and so did Lisa (my bikes name.)
Post Body

Had the first and hopefully the last major death scare today. I was driving down the road and had just missed my highway entrance on my left. I wasn't in a hurry since I was just burning gas so I kept in my left lane. Now there are 2 lanes that go left onto the highway and 2 that go right to stay on the access road. Just past the split the lanes soon return to being 3 lanes for the access. I was in the left lane of the access road, soon to be middle lane, when a car runs a stop sign to my right. He didn't just slow roll it he full on high speed ran it. He was headed right for me so I pressed hard to go left and came off the throttle. He was trying to get in the now far left lane. I went hard left and was headed straight for the ditch, but still on two wheels and in control. All my drivers training from my military time has taught me that when you're going into the ditch you just accept it and take the ditch rather than fight it. So I commit to the ditch when I see that there isn't a nice grassy ditch. The ditch I was hoping for was a one foot drop from my paved surface, to gravel, then to the paved surface of the highway below that also had about a 4 inch drop at the edge of that asphalt. So I knew I needed to clear it all or risk hitting the edge of the lower asphalt and eat shit if either the front or rear tire hit. Now mind you I was already going 45 mph when all this took place and I was reacting in milliseconds. So I hit the gas and jumped that "ditch." At the time that gap was at least 10 feet across and I was jumping 5 feet down and going 100 mph. I managed to stand up, jump straight across, upright and straight, land in control, and turn to the right and get back on the gas to avoid the cars entering the highway. As I was pulling over to stop and remove the death grip my asshole had on my seat I could tell that I was ok and so was my Lisa. I checked her out and she's fine aside from some scrapes from the landing. She's due for an oil change so I'll have them look her over just to be sure. Of course the car that caused all this just kept going without so much as slowing down. I've been riding for nearly 15 years and this is the first near death experience I've had while riding. If I can another 15 years it won't be long enough.

TL;DR Car caused me to jump ditch, literally. I'm fine and the bike is fine.
