Coil Question | 2005 Sportster Project
Post Body

I've been trying my hand at "restoring" my old 2005 Sportster 883 Low and have been learning quite a bit during the process, I'm not a mechanic or an expert by any means, latest modifications have included CV carb rebuild and paint, engine paint, new idle/throttle cables, reworked the entire fuel system (new lines rebuilt vacuum pepcock etc) and I'm currently working on the asthetics of the bike while I wait for parts.

I have relocated the choke cable with a bracket on the side of the CV carb and I'm planning on fabricating and/or modifying the Choke (enrichener) cable bracket on the left side of the bike it's not being used for anything anymore since relocating the choke to to carb bracket to relocate the coil, I think this simple mod looks awesome but I have questions about it.

(TLDR)

My question is can I use a 2007 and up Coil instead of the current 2005 Coil? "Why?" You might ask, well.. The newer coil looks better IMO. Here are the parts and parts numbers in question.

Harley OE Part Num: 31655-99 is 0.5 Ohm

Fits: 2004-06 Sportster

Harley OE Part Num: 31656-07 is 0.5 Ohm

Fits: 2007-2022 Sportster

I would assume (what a dangerous thought that is.. lol) that being the same resistance they may work, but I can't find ANY info on this anywhere, any help would be greatly appreciated!

Sorry for the lackluster pictures 😅
